There is a lively interest between Austria and Italy in cross-border internships and apprenticeships, in tourism and beyond. Different legal regulations on legal status and type of employment of interns and apprentices currently lead to a difficult situation and a cross-border obstacle. A European solution to these regional problems seems unlikely.

On behalf of the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR), ÖIR investigated the possibilities for implementing cross-border apprenticeships and internships in the region. The structural differences between the legal situations remain an obstacle, yet practical proposals for solutions for both apprentice-ships and internships could be developed and presented in the region.
