ÖIR

We are a team of professionals with a wide range of educational backgrounds: spatial planning, geography, transport planning, landscape planning, business administration and economics, geographical information science & systems, sustainable development, renewable energy, international development, gender studies, statistics and political science. Thanks to this variety of profiles and expertise, we provide muti-faceted approaches and tailor our work to best suit the project and tasks at hand.

We produce studies, develop tools and tailored methodologies, providing robust, practical and evidence-based recommendations for our clients. Our services are offered to public administrations, public enterprises, the private sector, interest groups and NGOs. Our clients especially value our independence, our critical and thorough working methods as well as our high professionalism standards.

The association

ÖIR is owned by the association ” the Austrian Institute for Spatial Planning”, which was founded in 1957. Its history is closely linked to the development of spatial planning in Austria.

The founding members of the association were originally the Republic of Austria, several Austrian federal states as well as the Austrian social partners.

At the end of the 1990s, the public sector withdrew completely from the association. Today, the employees of ÖIR are members of the association and thus the owners of the company. We are very proud of this employee-owned status and are fully committed to seeing it flourish.
