Inland waterways

Cargo transport via inland waterways makes an important contribution to a sustainable and energy-efficient transport system. It is environmentally friendly, safe and offers attractive transport prices, especially for bulk goods or high-and-heavy products.

Within the framework of national and transnational studies, we regularly analyse transport development in the Danube corridor. We prepare transport analyses as well as market studies on trade with products and groups of goods that can easily be shipped. Moreover, we identify future transhipment potentials for inland- and sea-ports in the Danube region. ÖIR evaluates national and European transport and trade statistics, conducts research on economic sector development and logistics trends. Our areas of expertise also include the development of recommendations, maps on economic infrastructure and transport flows and business plans.
