On Wednesday, 17th September 2008 the OIR organised in cooperation with the Federal Chancellery of Austria (department IV/4) a symposium under the slogan “Rural areas, male spaces?” on the subject of “gender issues in rural development”. Within an intense discussion between stage and auditorium the current situation of women and men on the countryside was analysed and essential key points for the future development towards an increasing equality in rural areas were formulated.
