The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) organised an exchange workshop on the role of land-use and spatial planning tools for biodiversity conservation and climate adaptation in Bonn on November 29th 2018. Projects in this field from Tanzania, Zambia, Colombia and Vietnam were presented and discussed. Erich Dallhammer from OIR presented the issue of spatial planning in the European Union and its role in climate adaptation and biodiversity.

He emphasized that even the EU has no general competence on spatial planning, EU legislation and policies influences spatial development through legislations (EU Directives), incentives, the agenda and discourse setting.
