In October 2017 OIR has been invited to contribute to the International Conference to establish the Cooperation between China and European Sub-regions. The conference has been organised by the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and brought together experts from China several Eastern European Countries and Austria. The prupose was to path the way forward in the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative as well as the 16+1 cooperation – 16 Eastern/ Central European countries and China.

Bernd Schuh presented some facts about EU cohesion policy and the role of EU macro-regions therein. The participants concluded to continue the dialogue in this form to better understand the territorial specifities on both sides.
