In May 2023, the study on the analysis of land use with regard to spatial types and impact factors in the region of East Austria (Burgenland, Lower Austria, and Vienna) was published by the Planning Association East (PGO). The study was conducted on behalf of the PGO by Erich Dallhammer, Mailin Gaupp-Berghausen and Isabella Messinger with the assistance of Cristian Andronic, Katrina Herre, Ursula Mollay and Christof Schremmer.

As part of the study, the ÖIR team conducted statistical analyses of the current status of land use and soil sealing in the region of East Austria to identify possible drivers (e.g. population growth). Furthermore, forecasts for the development of land use in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland until 2030 were calculated. The focus was on estimating land use by settlement and transport areas. In the analyses, a distinction was made between six spatial types to enable a differentiated consideration of the results and necessary measures. The ÖIR has developed a package of measures to counter rising land consumption in the sectors of housing, transport, economy and infrastructure.
