In cooperation with Modul University Vienna, Bernd Schuh, Helene Gorny and Roland Gaugitsch will be applying a carrying capacity methodology for tourism in the Iveragh Peninsula, in southwest Ireland. The main objective is to use the ESPON TOURISM project results to provide local stakeholders on the Iveragh Peninsula with the means to assess tourism trends in support of developing policies and action plans for the long-term and sustainable development of the local tourist industry, as the sector emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. The project team will notably conduct two workshops with local stakeholders to examine the destination’s context, challenges, and needs and agree on a common understanding of sustainable tourism means in the area. Another outcome of the project will be the adaptation of the ESPON Tourism dashboard to include a specific module for the Iveragh Peninsula.
