Population growth in city and suburbs, high fuel prices, parking management: a continued strong growth in the demand for public transport is expected for the Vienna region. On behalf of ÖBB Infrastruktur AG the ÖIR developed the basics, such as traffic fore­casting and impact analysis, to coordinate the future required rail infrastructure between the city of Vienna and the Verkehrsverbund Ostregion VOR (transport asso­ciation for Austria’s eastern regions).

Aim of the study is the well-organised and efficient provision of public transport supply as well as the increase of the modal split of public transport.
