ÖIR presented the Austrian approach of Integrated Spatial and Energy Planning in Ostrava

The climate crisis and the energy crisis challenge spatial planning. The transformation of cities and municipalities towards energy saving mobility and heating without fossil fuels like natural gas, coal or oil is required. Therefore, in Austria better links between spatial planning and energy supply shall be established. On 30 March 2023 Erich Dallhammer presented the Austrian approach of “Integrated Spatial and Energy Planning” at a conference of spatial planners in Ostrava (Konference AUÚP – Energetická krize). Amongst others he described Vienna’s way to replace 600.000 existing gas heaters with other heating systems fuelled by renewable energy till 2035.
