In 2013 an Advisory Mission with experts of ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) took place in Burgenland to assess the situation of the world heritage “Fertő-Neusiedler See” in between the existing and planned wind farms.
ÖIR consultants supported the administrative department for spatial planning in preparing as well as carrying out the Advisory Mission and provided analyses and strategies for the consensual handling of the areas of conflict between conservation of cultural heritage and use of wind energy.
