The INTERREG IV B project RAILHUC – Railway Hub Cities and TEN-T network aimed to improve Central Europe’s interconnectivity by an intermodal integration of rail hubs at 3 different levels: TEN-T network, regional and local transport rail and non rail systems. While high speed connections are in the course of up-grading, rail bound feeder lines and in general public transport need to be up-graded and integrated into TEN-T systems. To develop common concepts for better integration of urban and regional rail transport into intercity and transnational networks, partners from 11 cities exchanged information and shared good practice.

OIR delivered good practices on the topics “Integrated ticketing and transport associations”, “Major reconstruction of railway nodes, investments for better integration of modes” as well as integrated timetables. Following good practices have been analysed: transport associations Tyrol, Styria, Austria‘s Eastern Region and South Moravian Region in the Czech Republic, the concept of RAIL 2000 in Switzerland and the major infrastructure projects Vienna and Graz main train stations. The selected examples were described in terms of original problem, framework, approaches and success factors.
