MAK-RES explores how spatial planning can support the deployment of renewable energy—particularly wind and solar—across Europe, addressing the key challenges of land-use conflicts, public acceptance and administrative barriers. The project conducts in-depth case studies in seven countries: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Portugal, Romania, and Spain.

The MAK-RES team works closely with local experts, national and regional stakeholders to identify planning challenges, map enabling practices, and develop recommendations that contribute to EU policy objectives—particularly those under the European Green Deal and the revised Renewable Energy Directive (RED III).
