Despite many years of European integration and efforts to overcome national barriers, these still pose significant hurdles to labour market integration. The lack of cross-border data collected and analysed leads to a lack of knowledge about the structure and scale of cross-border labour markets and, consequently, to “blind spots” in policymaking. The project analysed 11 regional cross-border labour markets and, based on the experience gained, developed a structured guide for the prepa¬ration and analysis of statistical data.

ÖIR led the overall project management, the development of statistical methods, the coordination of regional analyses and the final formulation of recommen¬dations for action. The results are available in the form of a final report, a handbook and 11 case study reports.
