The project CENTRAL EUROPE 2014+ includes an in-depth analysis of the challenges, needs and potential of the CE region as well as an analysis of the strategic orientation in the context of transnational cooperation for the next programming period 2014-2020.
Apart from a detailed analysis of the challenges, which represents mainly the status quo of the eight participating Member States (Czech Republic, parts of Germany, parts of Italy, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia) and the permanent observer (Ukraine) in the thematic areas of globalization & economic development, accessibility, demographic change, social cohesion, climate change, energy, environment and governance, the needs of the region were identified. This was part of a detailed analysis of both regional and national as well as transnational and European framework papers and strategic documents. The literature analysis was supported by an online survey and a number of interviews with experts. From this examination strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats derived, which were processed within a SWOT analysis, deducing future potentials and barriers for the development of the CENTRAL EUROPE area. The final results of the CE-analysis were scenarios of possible territorial development if pursuing certain funding priorities in the future transnational programme.
