Within the project “The challenge of land abandonment after 2020 and options for mitigating measures”, OIR together with the Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics, Rural and Mountain Research discussed three possible scenarios for the year 2030. The selected scenarios include the ‘Climate Change’ scenario, which outlines the “worst case” prognosis of the IPCC Report, the ‘Globalisation of markets’ scenario, which supports agricultural production only in favourable locations and the ‘Major health crisis’ scenario, which shows how Europe is acting with global supply uncertainties and resulting local land use conflicts. At OIR Bernd Schuh, Martyna Derszniak-Noirjean, Mailin Gaupp-Berghausen, Chien-Hui Hsiung, Arndt Münch and Cristian Andronic carried out the study for the European parliament.
