Last year, the ÖIR team — Joanne Tordy, Cristian Andronic, Erich Dallhammer, and Raffael Koscher — worked on a technical report regarding the implementation of the revised Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) in Vorarlberg. The results are now publicly available on the Vorarlberg state government’s website.

The work focused on specific questions regarding the handling of wind power and photovoltaics in the context of the new RED III requirements: for example, whether wind power projects in Vorarlberg can continue to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, which areas may qualify as “designated areas,” and under what conditions artificial or sealed surfaces can also be considered as acceleration areas for photovoltaics. A supplementary in-depth chapter also addresses the potential of industrial areas as PV acceleration zones and the role of battery storage.

The technical report is available here.
