The report presents the results of the study on successful regional transformation towards climate neutrality in the EU. The report treats on the requirements for regional climate neutrality based on environmental sciences and the context of the EU targets and policies. It contains six regional examples across the EU and presents the identified key drivers, conditions and instruments for a successful transformation towards a climate neutral future. The report concludes specified policy recommendations for EU decision-makers in the field of supporting the EU regions in achieving the goals of climate neutrality.

The research project was carried out on behalf of the European Parliament from November 2021 to April 2022. It was done together with the Institute for Managing Sustainability of the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business and Ecologic Institute from Berlin.
