Are you interested in finding out how much money the CAP and cohesion policy funds are spending in rural areas? A study team led by ÖIR analysed in detail how much EU funding flows into rural areas and which investments were supported. It covered the effectiveness, relevance and coherence of EU and national support schemes. The European Commission has recently published the final report.
As part of this study, EU funding was analysed in detail at regional level across the EU, including regarding structural non-agricultural needs, as demographic change, mobility, SMEs and economic diversification, energy transition, etc. The evaluation team also identified and analysed types of governance systems that reinforce the interaction of national and EU funding (EAFRD, ERDF, ESF and more) in rural areas. The team also assessed the characteristics of rural areas and their development needs at NUTS3 level using quantitative approaches, as cluster analyses, benchmarking and accessibility analysis. Eight case studies were carried out at regional and national level, assessing these patterns and functionalities in detail.
