On June 14th 2015 the Committee of the Regions has organised the half-day seminar ‘Monitoring polycentric territorial development in Europe with novel indicators: beyond GDP and NUTS 2’. The event has tried to bring together research projects which were addressing the challenge of how to define and measure regional development in order to identify the best policies. Various EU institutions like EUROSTAT and the Joint Research Centre showed their approaches.

Bernd Schuh from OIR presented the results from the study on ‘Mapping the Social Dimension of the EMU’ and provided insights in social disparities and their regional measurement in Europe.
