On December 9th, 2024, the ÖIR team organised an online dialogue on the topic of “European regions in transition: challenges and EU response”. This online dialogue is part of a series of workshops regularly organised by ÖIR. During these events, completed and on-going projects are presented, including the methods and procedures applied.
During this online dialogue, three projects, addressing various challenges faced by different types of regions and perspectives on the future of European policies were presented by Arndt Münch, Roland Gaugitsch and Erich Dallhammer. The presented projects included two studies commissioned by the European Commission: the Study on funding for EU rural areas (DG AGRI) and the ongoing DG REGIO project on Cross border regional labour market analysis as well as by the European Parliament: the study on The impact of the gas supply crisis on the Just Transition Plans.
Three guest speakers also enriched the dialogue. Klaus Boele and Jeroen Vandeur from the European Committee of the Regions talked about territorial cooperation and just transition respectively, and Kai Böhme from Spatial Foresight reflected on the future of European regional policy.
We thank the participants for their interest and constructive contributions to the debates and stay tuned for the more information on the next online dialogues!
