At the beginning of March 2026, the event “Networking in the Alpine Region: Creating Connections, Shaping the Future” took place in Villach. Representatives of cross-border EU projects (Interreg) and their program offices, EUSALP, and the Alpine Convention discussed developments in the Alpine region and explored new opportunities for cooperation.

ÖIR Managing Director Erich Dallhammer brought the perspective of the territorial dimension into the discussion. He referred to the “State of the Territory Report,” which systematically analysed territorial development across the Alpine region within the framework of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) and was published at the end of 2025. The ÖIR developed the analytical approach and carried out the territorial analysis for the report. By combining data, maps, and spatial interpretations, the report highlights important cross-border challenges in the Alps and provides an evidence base for future EUSALP priorities and action plans.
