The Supreme Council for Planning in the Sultanate of Oman has launched the development of the Oman National Spatial Strategy (ONSS). This project has been running for three years now. Bernd Schuh from OIR has been member of the Advisory Group, which is supervising the work and supporting the Supreme Council with the quality assessment. After the first steps of the strategy have been set up, in the beginning of September 2013 OIR has attended a Steering Group meeting in Oman – on the level of the relevant Deputy Ministers – providing thematic input in the field of GIS and spatial data and monitoring. For the coming three years the involvement of OIR within the advisory group will go on throughout the phases of the ONSS development.
