Structural change is an important issue for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and a number of structural development programmes are being implemented to support it. Sustainability assessments as part of the project selection process in these programmes are a key element in supporting the environmental and social aspects of structural change. Together with its partner IREES, ÖIR was commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia to evaluate and further develop the existing sustainability assessment procedures. In December 2024, Ursula Mollay and Roland Gaugitsch discussed the initial results with those responsible for the programme at a workshop in Düsseldorf. The final results of the project will be available in autumn 2025.
