What do demographic change, climate risks, mobility, energy transition and ecological connectivity have in common? They all shape the future of the Alpine Region — and they all have a strong spatial dimension.

At the end of 2025, the ‘State of the Territory Report’ was published, which systematically analysed territorial development throughout the Alpine region within the framework of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP). As consortium lead, ÖIR developed the analytical concept and carried out the territorial analysis behind the report. By combining data, maps and spatial interpretation, the study makes key Alpine challenges visible across borders and provides an evidence base for future EUSALP priorities and Action Plans.

The report was realised in close cooperation with Rosinak & Partner ZT GmbH and Alexandra Rupp-Ebenspanger, bringing together territorial expertise, cartography and clear, accessible communication.
