We are pleased to announce the launch of the ESPON project “Interreg Transnational Programmes: Needs and Opportunities for Future Cooperation (TNCOOP)”, under the Thematic Action Plan “Living, working and travelling across borders”. The project will contribute to ESPON’s stock of research and provide new European territorial evidence in the framework of the ESPON 2030 Programme.

TNCOOP explores how transnational cooperation can evolve beyond 2027, by analysing development patterns, governance models and strategic priorities across all 13 Interreg transnational programme areas. The cooperation encompasses transnational, national, regional and local programme partners in Member States, but it may also include regions in non-EU countries, in enlargement and neighbourhood partner countries.

Led by ÖIR, together with EPRC, Nordregio and wiiw, the project will deliver territorial evidence and actionable recommendations on how to strengthen functional linkages, improve programme relevance, and align with the EU’s future strategic agenda and cohesion policy goals.
