On 10 June 2026, the closing event of the Cross-Border Data Collection project took place at the Berlaymont building in Brussels. The event was facilitated by Sabrina Mansutti and Roland Gaugitsch and brought together around 70 participants onsite and online, including representatives from European institutions, statistical authorities, regional administrations and organisations working on cross-border cooperation. The programme included presentations from the project team, as well as contributions from invited speakers and two panel discussions.
The project explored how administrative data can be used to produce more comparable and territorially detailed statistics on incoming cross-border workers. During the event, the project team presented the developed methodology, the results of the data collection exercise and key lessons learned from the cooperation with National Statistical Institutes and other data holders across Europe.
The discussions confirmed the potential of administrative data to improve the understanding of cross-border labour markets, particularly at regional level. The next challenge will be to build on this pilot exercise and move towards more regular and sustainable production of statistics on incoming cross-border workers in Europe.
