Since 2020, we have been supporting the state of Burgenland with technical studies and strategic environmental assessments for the zoning of ground-mounted photovoltaic plants. The sixth round of zoning was completed in April 2026. Over the past six years, a total of 92 suitable zones covering approximately 3,100 hectares have been designated across 63 municipalities.
At the same time, the next zoning round was launched in April 2026. In this phase, 13 additional sites are being assessed for their suitability for ground-mounted PV plants.
The zoning team at ÖIR — Joanne Tordy, Cristian Andronic, Erich Dallhammer, Alexander Geschina, and Raffael Koscher — is also supporting the Burgenland Provincial Government in this zoning round with the spatial planning assessment of the sites, the strategic environmental assessment, and the procedural process.
