This February ÖIR participated in the network meeting of the European Network for Cross-Border Monitoring organised by the BBSR in Paris. Manon Badouix (ÖIR) and Nicolas Rossignol (ESPON) presented results from two ESPON projects focusing on cross-border data: CROSSGOV and CORE-IB. These projects provide new evidence and methodological approaches for characterising cross-border areas across Europe.

Within CROSSGOV, the methodology for defining pan-European functional cross-border regions was presented, based on a set of harmonised indicators. This project is an important first step towards creating a Europe-wide, functionally comparable representation of cross-border areas.

CORE-IB complements this approach by developing pan-European indicators for 48 border profiles, as well as supporting Interreg A programmes in preparing for the upcoming funding period.
