Overtourism – root causes, impacts, solutions and good practices

Together with the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts ÖIR won the tender “Unbalanced tourism growth at destination level – root causes, impacts, existing solutions and good practices” from the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME). At the core of the project is the analysis of the phenomenon of overtourism at local level via case studies and quantitative analyses, the development of tools and indicators to mitigate its impacts, and stakeholder outreach activities. The project is expected to run until the summer of 2022. From ÖIR’s side, the project team will include Bernd Schuh, Helene Gorny, Roland Gaugitsch, Mailin Gaupp-Berghausen and Arndt Münch.
