Gerhard Ainz

I have always been fascinated by the lives of people in a spatial context. I have travelled on the paths taken by Sven Hedin, Herbert Tichy, Heinrich Harrer and many others, and later also made numerous trips to regions and cultures that have always captivated my imagination. This interest in the relationship between people and their environment was not the only factor for my choice of academic study, but is still my principal motivation for working at ÖIR. The key issue of every project is ultimately always about how people "create" geography, that is, the analysis and shaping of the relations of people with their environments. As I have already said, fascinating!
